Faulty relationships and misuse of technology

In Ray Bradbury’s “The Veldt”, George and Lydia Hadley have spoiled their children, giving them too much freedom and access to a nursery that reads their minds and creates any environment they can imagine. By doing so, George and Lydia give up all authority and responsibility for the children, allowing the house and the nursery to parent them. Because they misuse the house’s technology, the parents are replaced by the nursery, which also makes them feel powerless and anxious. When they realize the negative effects this has on the children, George starts to impose rules and deny the children access to the house’s technology and, more importantly, to the nursery, leading the children to resent him and Lydia.
