Structure

Ray Bradbury’s short story “The Pedestrian” explores a single event in the life of the main character, Leonard Mead. The story follows a traditional plot structure, but it is more descriptive rather than focused on action. 

The events take place in a chronological order. The introduction sets the scene and provides the readers with a dark, depressing, atmosphere which highlights Mead’s sense of isolation. 

The first conflict introduced in the story is represented by the character’s inner frustration with the society he lives in, suggested by phrases such as “it was not unequal to walking through a graveyard” or “murmurs where a window in a tomblike building was still open”.
