Works with the same theme by Edgar Allan Poe

“The Black Cat” and “The Tell-Tale Heart” are two other short stories by the author which share the same themes and motifs as “The Cask of Amontillado”.

The three stories are first-person narratives of criminal narrators, whose sanity is debatable. Furthermore, in “The Black Cat”, the narrator also uses the walls of his cellar to imprison his wife, just like Montresor uses his vault to kill Fortunato. In “The Tell-Tale Heart”, the narrator hides the corpse of a man he was living with and whom he killed under the floor of the house.

However, in “The Black Cat” and “The Tell-Tale Heart”, the murderers are caught by the police, while in “The Cask of Amontillado”, the narrator has gone unpunished for fifty years.
