Narrator and point of view

The short story “She Shall Not Be Moved” by Shereen Pandit is told by a female first-person narrator who is also the main character. Throughout the story, we have access to the narrator’s thoughts and feelings about the ongoing events, which are seen entirely from her perspective. 

This insight allows us to see what it is like to witness injustice and racism while being too afraid to step in. It is clear that the narrator is upset by what she sees on the bus, and her emotional turmoil is increased by her own inability to step in. Her passivity becomes even more striking because she used to be a political act...
