Style of writing

The short story “She Shall Not Be Moved” by Shereen Pandit is written in a fairly informal style that often appears conversational. It is easy to imagine the narrator telling this story to us in real life. 

One example is this: “So I was highly pleased, I tell you, when that bus finally pulled up. I paid. That’s another thing, it was the last change I had on me and I couldn’t afford to get chucked off, could I?” (ll. 8-10). The conversational style is seen from the question at the end, which sounds like she is addressing the reader. The phrase “I tell you” also contributes to the impression of a conversation or ordinary language. 

Repetition

There is a crucial example of repetition in the story which stresses the lack of interference by the other passengers...
