Summary

“Deportation at Breakfast” by Larry Fondation tells the story of an unnamed narrator who enters a diner called “Carla’s” one morning. He is attracted by the clean-looking signs and the low prices. Once inside, the narrator observes the interior of the diner and the man behind the counter, who is named Javier.

Javier is dressed all in white and has a strong accent. After the narrator places his order, authorities enter the diner and arrest Javier. Javier does not resist the arrest.

The rest of the people in the diner do not seem to notice the incident. Afraid that his eggs are going to get burned, the narrator goes behind the counter and prepares the rest of his breakfast. Two customers want to pay for their order and do not no...
