Consumption and usefulness

In the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the government uses modern technologies and behavioral psychology to influence and control consumer behavior. In their childhood, for example, people are programmed to later be able to “consume transport” with joy (Chapter 2, 36%), to hate nature, or to like outdoor sports. This will stimulate the economy. Factory production is in high demand. Sleep teachings also influence the consumer behavior of the citizens: “ ‘A love of nature keeps no factories busy.’ ” (ibid.). “ ‘We always throw away old clothes.
