The everyday life that Aldous Huxley experienced in Europe between the two world wars was characterized by riots, change in political systems, and the social and economic consequences of the war. The traditional worldview had been shaken by scientific knowledge and the war. These events led to disruption in literature, too. Above all in England, writers protested against the existing systems and doubted the idea of progress of the 19th century.

The literary works published during this time are experimenting with new literary techniques and put society and individuality in a new light. These very topics can also be found in Brave New World.
